Procedure for converting ICAO or FAA licence to EASA pilot licence
Please take into account, that all conversions are done individually with individual differences based on hours flown, state of issue, type of aircraft flown etc. You also have to have EASA medical certificate and ICAO English. Your licence and all ratings you want to convert must be VALID, so you need to be able to act as PIC! Procedure below can be consider as an average one, but your process may vary from it:
ICAO to EASA conversion
for PPL/CPL holders we start with converting PPL first. For this procedure you must have at least 100 HOURS TOTAL TIME AS PILOT in class you like to convert. Conversion is done by completing written exams in CAA from Air Law and Human Performance and practical skill test.
You need to pass all EASA ATPL theory exams.
If you have enough hours for other trainings (MEP, IR, CPL) as written in PART-FCL we will proceed with full NIGHT rating (5 hours) and shorten competency based IR training (duration depends on lot of factors, but on average if you are IR rated and you have all flights signed by instructor in your logbook, it is 25 hours of training, 15 of that can be the SIM). If you have more than 50 hours as PIC in IFR flights, training can be much shorter – basically only some repetition flight and skill test.
After that we will do MEP training (6 hours), MEP IR (5 hours) and CPL (15 hours).
For CPL you need to have at least 100 hours as PIC and 200 hours total time.
All hours are required minimum and all trainings must contain a skill test
FAA to EASA conversion
First we will convert PPL by completing a skill test and oral exam with Examiner.
For converting Multi Engine and Night rating all requirements in PART-FCL must be met and training flown in US can be taken into account to those requirements.
You need to complete all EASA ATPL theory exams.
For IR conversion (unless you have more than 50 hours PIC in IFR) you need to undergo aclimatization flights – durations depends on your skills, on average it is 10 hours of training.
For CPL training 15 hours must be flown after all previous trainings.
All hours are required minimum and all trainings must contain a skill test.
