A new type of instrument flight training for pilots who just want to fly for fun. It fully replaces the EIR instrument rating training.

BIR training prices

The holder of a BIR shall be entitled to conduct IFR operations in single-pilot aeroplanes for which he/she holds a class rating, except for high performance aeroplanes and variants of aeroplanes where an IR rating is required by operational suitability data.

Such a pilot is entitled to conduct flights under IR rules, but under slightly more stringent meteorological minima than a full IR pilot (mainly visibility and minimum cloud height on landing).

This rating is a kind of "upgrade" of the EIR (en-route IR) rating, which allowed the pilot to fly under IFR rules only on the en-route part of the flight. With the new version of the BIR you have the possibility to fly IFR from take-off to landing. An excellent option for pilots who don't want to become professionals, but want to fly on a trip or vacation even in bad weather.

Student requirements

Qualifications: The applicant for a BIR(A) must hold a PPL(A). If the applicant wishes to exercise BIR privileges at night, the applicant must hold a NIGHT(A) night rating. If the applicant wishes to exercise BIR privileges in multi-engine aircraft, the applicant must hold a MEP(A) LAND class rating.

Medical requirements: the student shall hold at least a valid Class II medical certificate, supplemented by an examination in accordance with MED.A.030(g).

Theoretical instruction: a minimum of BIR(A) theoretical instruction in an approved ATO is required to commence practical training.

Language requirements: An applicant for a BIR(A) shall  demonstrate the ability to use the English language as prescribed in FCL.055 by passing the ICAO English language test shall be taken no later than during the training.

Theoretical training

Theoretical training shall consist of a total of 8-10 hours of instructor-led study (face-to-face or online) and 70 hours of self-study. A total of 80 hours. During the training, the pilot has to take the so-called progress tests, which evaluate the course of training and at the end of successful study he receives a certificate of completion of training with which he applies to the CAA for theoretical examinations.

  • Price: approx. € 477 (577 with VAT)

Practical training

Practical training consists of three to four modules (depending on whether you want to fly multi-engine aircraft):

  • Module 1 - basic flight training module for flight skills controlling flight by instruments only
  • Module 2 - Practical flight training module on departure procedures, holding, 2D approach and 3D IFR approach
  • Module 3 - Practical Flight Training Module for IFR en-route procedures
  • Module 4 - if a multi-engine BIR rating is sought, the practical flight instruction module for single-engine non-operational flight shall include the instrument approach procedure with asymmetric thrust and the missed approach procedure
The advantage of this training is that there is no minimum number of hours, but everything is flown until each module is fully mastered. So it is purely up to your ability how long you fly the training. Still, expect a minimum of 20-30 hours of training. There really is a lot to learn.

For practical training, we recommend starting with a simulator to learn the basics and then moving on to the aircraft. In addition to the cost of the aircraft, you need to add landing and approach fees at the airports where the training will be conducted.

TIP

You can start right away, training with us is individual, you plan your flights yourself in our app. We fly all year round, our planes are heated.

BIR training prices

The price depends on the type of aircraft and also on the number of hours flown. The prices of the aircraft and the theoretical part of the training are listed in our price list. You can choose from several types of aircraft from our offer on which you want to complete your training. These include the Cessna 172 RG, Diamond DA40 and our FNTP II simulator.

  • Course fee: approx. € 239 (289 with VAT) + BIR Theory: approx. € 477 (577 with VAT)
